Queensland police released the identity of the person they believe was the driver of the car that hit and killed a police officer on the Bruce Highway north of Brisbane yesterday.

Senior Constable David Masters, 53, was laying road spikes to stop a stolen car at Burpengary when he was struck just after 3:00am on Saturday.

A 24-year-old woman, who was allegedly the passenger of the car, was arrested and charged with murder overnight.

Detective Superintendent Craig Morrow said police were still looking for the driver, who they believe was Skye Anne Wallis, 33.

She is described as 170-centimetres tall, Caucasian, with dyed silver hair and brown eyes.

"We've constantly, today and last night, attended a number of addresses of family, friends and associates of those people in an effort to locate that person," he said.
